Nellcor Brand Focus and History

Nellcor™ has been a leader in Pulse Oximetry and monitoring solutions for more than 30 years. Nellcor brand products provide fast, accurate and consistent pulse oximetry performance across the wide range of patient needs, from neonates to adults.

Complex History 

In 1981 Nellcor was founded by a small group in Hayward, California to develop and market pulse oximetry systems.  In 1983 it introduces it's first popular pulse oximeter and immediately gains market share.  

In 1995 Nellcor expands into respiratory-related products by acquiring Puritan-Bennett and renaming the company Nellcor Puritan Bennett.  By 1997 the company is acquired by Mallinckrodt Inc.

In 2000 Mallinckrodt is acquired by Tyco International and Tyco divides Nellcor and Puritan Bennett as two businesses within Tyco Healthcare.

In 2007 Tyco spins off several healthcare brands to create Covidien. By 2014 Coviden is acquired by Medtronic.

As of 2015 MedtronicCovidien markets the Nellcor brand which dominates the market together with its primary competitor Masimo.
